Phoenix Rising Trilogy
A conglomerate of world leaders, called the Axis, have decided it is time to narrow down the population of the Earth. In the United States, the government leaders have drawn a line down the center of the map and divided the country in half. Those who live at or below the poverty line, are ill, elderly, or otherwise dependent on the government, are being forced to relocate west of the Axis line. Those who live above the poverty line, are healthy and young, are being relocated to the east of the Axis line. With the threat of nuclear war hanging over their heads, what the world leaders have planned next is nothing short of Nazi regime genocide on a global scale. John and Phoenix MacKenzie decide it is time to move their family from rural Nebraska to the compound they have been building for decades in Arizona. Once there, can they find a way to save humanity from the atrocities that await them?
The war cabinet has decided it was time to see if it was safe to come out of the compound yet. It has been twenty years since the bombs fell. Though we have lost some over the years, we have also gained some. People die, children are born to replace them. John and I have grandchildren ourselves now, we don't want them growing up in the compound.
I watch as John opens the ramp, we are wearing masks as a precaution. John and I, Niko and Trinity, Liam and Edith, make our way up the ramp. We stand at the top and gaze out at the landscape.
The world. Had gone. To shit. In the blink of an eye, the world as we knew it was totally rearranged into a desolate landscape. It was inevitable, really. So much division and fighting in the world could only lead to our own destruction. Countries tearing themselves apart from within, governments fighting for dominance and not taking care of their own people, and world leaders unable to quell the growing tsunami of discord.
Doomsayers had been prepping for this eventuality for decades, but no amount of training, prepping, or stockpiling can ever really prepare you for the end of the world as you know it. No matter who you were before, how much money you had, whether you prepped or not, we are all equal now. Disaster has a way of doing that, leveling the playing field. Now here we are, at the end, and we are all left wondering the same thing. How the hell did we get here and what the hell do we do now?
John cautiously removes his mask and takes a deep breath. After a few minutes he nods his head to the rest of us. We remove our masks and look back at the compound that has been our home for the last twenty years. John nods the all clear for the others to come out.
"What do we do now, Mom?" Niko asks.
"Now, we rebuild, we start over, we do better." I say.
As our grandchildren join us, we head out across the desert. The others follow suit, all headed in different directions. We are headed into an uncertain future, one our children and grandchildren will create. We are headed to find others, like us, who have survived. We will do better, we must, for we will not survive another breakdown of society.

About the Author

I was born and raised in Oklahoma. After graduating high school, I joined the Army and served three years. I was stationed in Washington where I decided to stay after leaving the Army. In 2001, I moved to Nebraska where I met my husband, TJ. In 2017, we decided to move to Arizona with our two sons, Xander and Aiden. We have three guinea pigs, Lizabeth, Geronimo, and She She; one dog, Dozer; and two turtles, Turd and Hebron. We love it here in the warm sunshine surrounded by palm trees and mountains.
My family thought I was crazy when I told them I wanted to write a book. I'm more of a reader than a writer. I'm new to writing but I find it to be a breath of fresh air just getting the thoughts in my head written down. Now that I've started, the ideas keep flowing. I really hope you enjoy reading my stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them. Thank you for taking the time to read them. Happy Reading!
