Power Hammers: Using the Ultimate Sheet Metal Fabrication Tool

Previously the domain of large factories and certain old-school fabricators, Power Hammers are now available to thousands of hot rodders, and numerous restoration and fabrication shops. Thanks to the recent emergence of small, modern, affordable designs, Power Hammers are no longer the sole domain of wealthy individuals and a few select shops.

As more and more fabricators consider the purchase of a Power Hammer there comes the need for a book explaining which hammer to buy and how best to use what can only be called a fabricator's super tool. If it takes two hours to make a quarter panel for a Ferrari on an English Wheel, the same panel can be crafted on a Power Hammer in less than 30 minutes - by a fabricator with a working knowledge of this reborn technology.

This new book written by prolific author William H. Longyard includes detailed photo sequences done by a variety of well-known craftsmen working in both steel and aluminum. Each sequence takes a project from the first planning session to the finished piece. The projects include both shrinking and stretching, also the why and how of using a buck to guarantee accuracy. In total, this new, 176 page book from Wolfgang Publications, includes over 500 color photographs and is the only book of its kind on the market.

About the Author

Author William Longyard is author of three sheet metal and fabrication books that cover everything from shaping metal with hammer and dolly, to rolling sheets of steel or aluminum through the wheels of an English Wheel, to beating sheet metal into shape with the power hammer. His books are well written and illustrated - making the books easy to understand and put into action. William Longyard's skill set equipped him for writing how-to books as a shop teacher, fabricator in his own shop, experienced author, and talented photographer.
