Notes From Your Bookseller

Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham are back with a follow-up to their bestselling hit Itty-Bitty Kitty-Corn. Kitty-Corn and Unicorn share a very special friendship that overflows with mutual appreciation and admiration — even if they aren't perfect. An ideal and easily re-readable story time book to share.

Unicorn is perfect-everybody thinks so. He yearns to look the way everyone thinks he should. But when a fumble makes Unicorn feel like a big, ugly goof, he can't help but wonder: If he's not absolutely perfect and majestic all the time, will Kitty even want to be his best friend anymore? The magical bestselling team of Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham put their horns together once again for a heart-bursting story featuring an utterly adorable kitty-corn pair, making it clear that it's okay to embrace our flaws and share the messy parts of ourselves.

Editorial Reviews

Booklist

"This is a great read to talk to little ones about how appearance isn't everything, and how even someone who everyone thinks is perfect can feel sad inside. . .Beautiful illustrations on every page in vibrant pinks and purples playfully send the message that it's okay to share the messy parts of ourselves."

Shelf-awareness

"Readers of Pretty Perfect Kitty-Corn will witness the ways in which self-perception can be damaging, and good friends (those who are "precious, like the last cookie") should always share the magic message that we don't need to be flawless to be worthy of love."

K-Gr 2—In this latest collaboration between Hale and Pham, best friends Kitty-corn and Unicorn are making a real mess of it. Everyone know that from his well-trimmed hooves to his deep purple mane and shiny horn, Unicorn is perfect. But when Kitty-corn decides to capture Unicorn's perfection in a painting, there is something that just isn't right. Kitty-corn realizes what is missing and subsequently declares her work a masterpiece. This humorous reminder that appearance isn't everything combines rhythmic text with bold and comical illustrations. The pinks and purples used throughout will draw readers' eyes to the center of the action and clue them into the words in the text. While the best friends are the focus of this story, they are accompanied by a gecko and a parrot that add their own commentary and hilarity along the way. VERDICT A sweet message, eye-catching illustrations, and one whopper of a surprise that will leave all readers in stitches—this is a great choice for story time.—Louie Lauer
