This book intends to describe the epidemiology, occupational and environmental exposures, biological basis, and practical guidelines related to the prevention of pulmonary diseases. The purpose of this book is to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive review of the available data regarding the relationship of respiratory diseases both to occupational and environmental exposures, biological markers of disease susceptibility, and tobacco use. This book is intended primarily for the pulmonary specialist for use as an overall reference source and current summary of available data. Illustrations are all black-and-white. The text includes many tables providing efficient and clear summaries of previous studies, and the references are extensive. This book provides a very thorough discussion of nearly all facets of the prevention of noninfectious respiratory disease, but it does not address the prevention of infectious respiratory diseases. This attractive book is a worthwhile addition to the field of pulmonary medicine, primarily as a thorough reference source and summary of the available data regarding the prevention of many respiratory diseases. As such, it is the first text of its kind in the field of pulmonary medicine devoted solely to prevention. It is well organized and thoroughly referenced.
