This updated edition (last edition 1995) offers the most recent research studies, clinical applications, and guidelines for oral disease prevention. There is broad coverage of oral health promotion among all populations, including early childhood, schools, geriatric, compromised patients, and hospital settings. The editors' objectives, which are met in the book, are to provide oral health providers the basic knowledge about the biology, pathophysiology, methods of prevention, and better understanding of the management of the geriatric population, compromised patients, and patients in a hospital setting. This book is written for students, residents, and all practitioners, with no duplication or omission of material. The large number of contributors from international teaching institutions reflects the rich contribution from throughout the world and represents credible authorities in the field. This book covers the importance and methods of application of primary preventive dentistry with emphasis on nutrition, risk factors assessment, and patient motivation not only for patients in dental offices or schools, but also in nursing homes, hospitals, and for those who are compromised. A short epilogue on Ethics of Prevention has been added to this edition. These areas are covered in a user friendly format with objectives, introduction, and a summary with each chapter.
