Description: This step-by-step, hands-on guide to basic as well as advanced mapping (programming) of cochlear implants is part of the Core Clinical Concepts in Audiology series.
Purpose: The authors wanted to offer practical guidance for clinicians who program cochlear implants and they claim this is the only book to provide step-by-step instructions. Given the increasing numbers of cochlear implantees, both children and adults, audiologists need the knowledge and skills to successfully program the implants. This book does a good job of guiding clinicians through the process.
Audience: The book is intended for use both as a clinical reference and a classroom teaching tool for graduate-level students. Dr. Wolfe is director of audiology at the Hearts for Hearing Foundation, as well an adjunct assistant professor in the audiology department of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Schafer is an assistant professor in the department of speech and hearing sciences at the University of North Texas where she teaches graduate courses in aural rehabilitation, pediatric habilitation, diagnostic audiology, and research methods, and serves as an educational audiology consultant for local school districts.
