Overview

In a rapidly changing social and political landscape like the one described, there are multiple potential concerns for children's mental health. These include:
1. Confusion about identity: Children might feel confused or overwhelmed by the range of options available to them regarding their gender and sexual identities. It's important to provide clear, age appropriate information and to encourage open conversation about these topics.
2. Effects of cancel culture: Cancel culture could potentially expose children to intense public shaming or bullying, especially if they are active on social media platforms. This can be stressful and detrimental to their mental health. 3. Anxiety and fear due to racism and police brutality: Exposure to media reports about systemic racism and police brutality can cause ardety and fear, particularly in children from marginalized communities. It's crucial to talk to them about these issues and offer reassurance and support
4. Divisiveness in politics: High levels of political polarization and conflict can increase feelings of uncertainty and anxiety. Again, open conversations about what's happening, appropriate to the child's age and understanding, are key.
5. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic: The pandemic has led to heightened stress, isolation, and in some cases, grief. It has disrupted the structure of children's lives, with impacts on schooling, social interactions, and family dynamics.

About the Author

Ron Maurice is a passionate advocate, and dedicated author committed to empowering parents and nurturing the next generation of successful Black males. With an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges faced by parents who have experienced abuse, trauma, and systemic racism, Ron’s work is a source of hope and guidance.
Ron’s journey began in 1987 when, at the age of 26, he became a member of The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in Philadelphia, PA. It was here that he witnessed the trauma endured by children in single-parent households, particularly those led by mothers. He recognized the systemic challenges that disproportionately affect the upbringing of Black male children and the additional struggles faced by parents who themselves are victims of abuse or trauma. This experience ignited a compelling need within him to take action. Drawing from extensive research, professional insights, and real-life experiences, Ron has crafted a comprehensive guide that addresses these unique challenges head-on. His book offers actionable strategies and solutions, providing a roadmap for parents seeking to raise resilient, confident, and successful Black males.
In 2006, Ron founded the 2G5 Bridging the Gaps Foundation in North Carolina, a faith-based, not-for-profit organization deeply intertwined with his mission. The foundation’s name symbolizes the biblical story of the two fish and five loaves multiplied by Jesus to feed the masses, reflecting Ron’s dedication to helping individuals discover their purpose through faith, truth, and meaningful activities.
Ron’s commitment to serving others is deeply rooted in his upbringing in a devout Christian family under the guidance of his father, a Bishop. His early exposure to the church as a space for learning, growth, and communion, along with his journey through the principles of Freemasonry, has profoundly shaped his approach to coaching, counseling, and mentorship. Over the years, Ron’s diverse professional background, including music production, hospitality accounting, sales, and forwarding commodity freight, as well as his efforts in developing a farm-to-table network across the United States, has allowed him to connect with countless individuals who enriched his life and strengthened his faith. It is to these people that he extends his deepest gratitude. Together, he believes, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of Black males and their families.
