Monmouth University professor Gac-Artigas has assembled two volumes of essays that explore Spanish American women writers in the last two decades. Besides her own entries, the selection features papers by more than 20 scholars from the United States, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Canada, among others. In two to seven pages, the papers introduce each author with a brief but complete bio-bibliography. In some cases, they include interviews with the writers or excerpts from their creative work, such as the poems "Managua" by Claribel Alegria (Nicaragua) and "Muchacha de Caravel!" ("Girl of Caravel!") by Cecilia Bustamante (Per#). The topics within these essays are as rich and diverse as the list of writers. From established authors like Rosario Ferr (Puerto Rico) and Isabel Allende (Chile) to emerging writers like Odette Alonso (Cuba), Gisela Kozak (Venezuela), and Sandra Cisneros (United States), the essays in these collections illuminate and open new research perspectives. This project was conceived not only as a printed collection but also as an internet library (http://bluehawk.monmouth.edu/~pgacarti/) for scholars and advanced students of Spanish American literature. Highly recommended for academic and public libraries with strong collections of Latin American women writers. Lourdes Vazquez, Rutgers Univ.
