The author explained that his inspiration for the book came from the following quote from Sheakespeare:"Our doubts are traitors,And make us lose the good we oft might win,By fearing to attempt."The story tells the ordeal of a Carioca doctor who abandons his girlfriend in an attempt to seduce a beautiful widow.
