This volume presents a novel logic-based, simplified understanding and approach to the external nose and face for aesthetics, airway, and sleep treatments that have mostly been under-recognized in the past. Key features of the text include an engineer’s approach to simple rhinoplasty, (Release, Resize, Reposition, Reinforce) instead of the typical step-wise procedure algorithm. It also includes a logical explanation of how facial skeletal anatomy is the true cause of sleep apnea and aesthetic deformity with the physics and evidence of how this works, and a review of conventional rhinoplasty/facial structural treatments, with an analysis of why these are flawed and need improvement. Finally, rhinoplasty surgical strategy is discussed using a Rhinoplasty Compass(TM) diagram.

Rethinking Rhinoplasty and Facial Surgery appeals to the surgeon who has grown frustrated with the aesthetic and breathing results of the conventional treatment paradigm. It also appeals to the otolaryngologist, plastic or oral surgeon who avoids working on the external nose and nasal valve because of the perceived complexity of graft-style rhinoplasty or oversimplicity and limitations of basic septoplasty and turbinate reduction. He lectures and is published extensively nationally on the concepts presented in this book and clinically practices as the director of Otolaryngology and residency site director at Jacobi Medical Center, and in a private practice in Westport Connecticut.

Description: This book seeks to serve as a new analysis of rhinoplasty taking into consideration the aesthetic role, the role of the nasal airway in obstructive nasal breathing, and the role of the nasal airway in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients.
Purpose: The book's purpose is to look at the nasal valve as a portion of the entire airway with all associated pathology and reframe the traditional primarily aesthetic view of rhinoplasty through this new lens. The book meets these objectives well, focusing on the scientific backing of a single airway theory with surgical and aesthetic considerations.
Audience: The book is primarily written at the level of one who already has a basic understanding of nasal anatomy, obstructive sleep apnea, and rhinoplasty techniques. It is most appropriate for senior otolaryngology residents, fellows, or attending physicians. Experienced physician assistants would also likely gain significant value. The book meets the needs of these audience members by providing a new mentality for them and their approach to rhinoplasty, OSA, and nasal obstruction.
Features: The book centers on rhinoplasty techniques and theorems that further expand upon the external and internal nasal valves as portions of the common airway and implications for surgical outcomes and planning.
