Overview

DEADLY HOMECOMING

Accused, tried, and convicted of robbery and murder, Jim Seton rotted in jail for five long years. Although the townspeople said he was lucky not to hang, that wasn't how Jim saw it. He didn't take kindly to being railroaded-especially not by a bunch of yellowbellies who called themselves his friends.

Finally free, Seton figured the last place he should go was back to Claymore. He figured right. It didn't take the gutless desperadoes long to come after him with bloody murder in their eyes and blazing Colts in their hands. But Jim was ready. He was an innocent man who'd been sent to hell-and he was ready, willing, and able to return the favor.

Library Journal

This 1931 novel by Brand takes the reader back to the frontier West. A little north of the Mexican border surrounded by the mountains lies a ranch with every potential for success. However, the calculated mismanagement and cunning trickery of the ranch's foreman, Douglas Walters, causes this same prosperous land to teeter on the edge of ruin. Walters goes so far as to keep a gang of outlaws waiting in the hills to rustle the cattle across the border and thus drain every asset from the ranch's owners, the Ashe family. By chance, Jim Seton meets Molly Ashe on his return from a five-year prison sentence. Seton sees an opportunity to prove his worth; all he has to do is save the ranch from the clutches of Walters and his gang. Not an easy task for one man, since the Ashe family views Walters as an able foreman and friend. Brand is in his element in this action-packed Western, ably read by Bill Weideman.
