When FBI agent Roarke Calhoun's aunt unexpectedly passes away, he is surprised to learn that, though she left her crumbling mansion to him, its contents were instead willed to the woman who broke his heart—his high school sweetheart, Megan Robinson. As Roarke and Meg begin to explore their joint legacy, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems at Greystone Manor. Treasures appear to be missing, and parts of the house have been mysteriously booby-trapped. Roarke and Meg will have to work together if they want to safely uncover the manor's secrets before it's too late. VERDICT Unfortunately, this stand-alone novel from Vanek (Rescue from Darkness) has a convoluted plot and a rather unconvincing second-chance romance.—Rebecca Moe
