Overview

Pioneering female rapper MC Lyte hit the ground running with her first single, 1988's stripped-down slice of life "I Cram to Understand U," (which told the story of her doomed relationship with a crack-addicted boyfriend), and never looked back. RHYME MASTERS selects cuts from albums from her debut, 1988's LYTE AS A ROCK to 1996's BAD AS I WANNA B. Though her production smarts grow increasingly sophisticated over the years, her whip-smart rhyming skills remain as sharp and focused on her Brooklyn roots in the '90s' caustic "Druglord Superstar" as they start out in the early days of "Cram."
