Overview

A roadrunner is native to the southwest. After moving to Arizona, the author of this set of tales never had close encounters with this type of bird. The author has experience around domesticated birds and used this knowledge to enter into the world of the roadrunner. This is a whimsical look into the comical habits of a native bird of Arizona, the roadrunner. The encounters by the author should entice the readers to look no further than their own back yards.

About the Author

Paula Palotay was born in Inglewood, California and after high school decided to study music at a small college in Denver, Colorado. After spending two years in Europe, she returned to Denver and made it her home for almost 40 years. She delved into a favorite hobby, photography, and became a free-lance photographer. Her favorite subjects were flowers, exotic birds, wild birds, including her own pet parrots. Paula also enjoyed documenting family and friend's events (weddings, senior pictures, anniversaries and one convention!). She delighted in a weekend workshop with her favorite Colorado landscape photographer, John Fielder, in 2005. Paula decided to move to southern Arizona in 2017, settling in a small community, Marana. The desert with its beauty and warm climate was conducive to investigating and rejuvenating her love of photography. There was no end to subjects but lately the roadrunner has become her favorite. He runs around her neighborhood, often lurking in her front and back yards.
Paula is a member of the Oro Valley Writers' Forum and has published stories in their anthologies: "Monsoon Madness" (2019) and "Desert Muses" (2020). She is also a member of the Tucson Audubon Society and Tohono Chul Park.
Paula has retained her membership in the International Music Fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon, and has maintained contact with the Denver Alumni Chapter where she was an active member until her move to Arizona. Paula was the official photographer at the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Convention in Denver, Colorado.
