About the Author

Brian Wayne Schultz was born on the Neosho River in Southeast Kansas. He was the youngest of 13 children born to George and Violet Schultz. Named in admiration of legendary cowboy, John Wayne, and Brian Keith who was early in his career dubbed the handsome tough guy, Schultz was branded with his own legendary reputation – true to his namesake.
Despite is seemingly unintelligible vocabulary, Schultz was early on recognized as a genius. He was equally recognized as a storyteller by those who knew him best.
In 2008, Schultz was afforded the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a writer when his wife, a newspaper editor, discovered a notebook filled with handwritten events told from his slanted perspective.
For the next year, Schultz entertained readers in the four-state area with his weekly column, Saddled Sideways.
Following his tragic death in 2021, his wife and children decided to honor the hometown legend and their hero by publishing the complete collection of Saddled Sideways.
