About the Author

Yacht designer Alfred “Alfie” Sanford began sailing around Nantucket when he was two or three years old: he’s not sure which. Nine years later he took a first overnight cruise in his 12-foot Rainbow catboat, anchoring and sleeping on the Horseshed shoal across the harbor from town. In recent decades he has sailed across the Atlantic four times and cruised around Ireland, Scotland, Norway, and the Eastern Mediterranean in his 57-foot yawl Impala, always returning to the waters of Nantucket.

Nathaniel Philbrick is the New York Times bestselling author of In the Heart of the Sea, Mayflower, and Valiant Ambition. He lives in Nantucket.
