With guitar samples chunkier and more riff-tastic than anything since the Beastie Boys' Jimmy Page-worshiping debut from more than two decades before, Seattle rap group the Saturday Knights bring the big beat back to hip-hop. This witty trio has a sense of humor and back-in-the-day innocence that is beyond refreshing in a hip-hop world that can be frustratingly shallow and redundant on the one hand and almost impenetrably cerebral on the other. There's not a gangsta-gangsta threat or cheddar-stack boast to be heard throughout, and the trio's rhymes on their self-titled debut are intelligent and clever, yet accessible, and will surely put smiling faces on all the bouncing heads.
