Overview

'To go far you must begin near, and the nearest step is the most important one.'

-J. Krishnamurti

First, to be upfront, this book is not a 'rah! rah! you're great!!' approach to Metaphysics. Neither does this book take a 'tsk, tsk you're awful and need help' approach. This book is aimed at anyone interested in understanding how the real world works and so become enabled to navigate what Krishnamurti called 'a pathless land': The Truth.

If you are interested in such an adventure, then this book will interest you.

This book is a compilation of essays which, singly and collectively, are geared to the exploration of everyday life through the lens of the metaphysical. The goal is two-fold. One aim is simply to bring metaphysics out of the realm of the arcane and occult. The second idea is to reintroduce, into the modern world, the humble, straightforward approach of Gnosticism and mysticism. People need once again to take their spiritual lives into their own hands.

About the Author

My name is John Evans. I am a Cancer born in the month of June in the Chinese Year of the Ox, 1961. I grew up in an Irish neighborhood in Chelsea MA. Chelsea is a small town across the harbor from Boston MA. My father was born a Southern Baptist in Eply, MS. He later converted to Roman Catholicism for my mom’s sake. At the time of my birth, my father was an electrical engineer and a retired WW II veteran. He had been a Chief Petty officer in the navy. He was assigned to a minesweeper in the Pacific. My mom was well educated and a housewife. She was a strict Irish Catholic. I am the youngest of 7 children born into that Irish Catholic family. The Irish part took root. The Catholic part did not.

With regard to my interest in the metaphysics, it is simply a reality that the spiritual aspect of Existence has always been a fascination of mine. It seemed obvious to me that it is in the realm of the metaphysical (the spiritual) that real answers could be found. As a result of my fascination with the spiritual, which has over time been reinforced by the fact that I have found real, functional, practical answers in my searching, I have looked into many, many religions. My attitude could be not better summarized than by what the Buddha said in one of his many brilliant statements: ‘the truth is what works’.
I only want what works.

I do not care one whit where that wisdom arises or is found.

If it works, I am in.
