Overview

It includes some changes in organization and, of course an updating of information, but the third edition retains the goal of providing a detailed, authoritative overview of current thought, for both basic and clinical neuroscientists. The first volume of this two-volume set addresses primary afferent neurons and the spinal dorsal horn. After an introductory chapter, subsequent chapters are focused on sensory receptors and peripheral nerves, dorsal root ganglion cells and their processes, the chemical anatomy of dorsal root ganglion cells, the structure and chemical anatomy of the dorsal horn, and the functional organization of dorsal horn interneurons. Volume 2, on ascending sensory tracts and their descending control, discusses these topics in connection with cord white matter, the dorsal funiculus and the dorsal lateral funiculus, the ventral quadrant, and the sensory channels. Authors William D. Willis, Jr. and Richard E. Coggeshall are affiliated with the U. of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
