The authors, two mental health professionals who suffered greatly from fundamenalist, judgmental upbringings, broadly lambast Christianity for causing psychological damage with almost all its doctrines and practices. Indeed, the authors eventually admit that "it may look as though we have blamed Christianity for everything but hangnails and natural catastrophe." They do admit that some Christians practice their faith in a nonabusive manner and list constructive ways in which the reader can do likewise. However, if one follows their suggestions to the logical conclusions, there will be little left of core Christian beliefs beyond "God is love." Not recommended.-Richard S. Watts, San Bernardino Cty.
