Pumpkins are picked up one by one in a spooky board book. It's Halloween night, and seven orange pumpkins are sitting in a patch. One by one, creepy creatures and ghouls come and scoop one up for their Halloween activities. The countdown to "one" concludes with the remaining pumpkin being turned into a jack-o'-lantern. The book's illustrations lovingly render the scariest night of the year as a frightfully good time, full of charm and comfortably creepy details. Black cats, a mummy, pirates, and all the requisite Halloween monsters are at hand. These details make this board book more than just a simple counting book cashing in on a holiday setting. This is a Halloween night with all the hard edges pleasantly rounded. Little ones who adore all things that go bump in the night will surely enjoy this one, but even those that require a night light will be able to appreciate it as well. A spooky good time.
