Dr. Stanberry is a highly respected authority in vaccine development. Dr. Stanberry focuses on sexually transmitted diseases research and has made important contributions in the area of tropical microbicides an in herpes simplex virus pathogenesis, immunobiology, and antiviral therapy. This book is a review of the epidemiology and pathogenesis of various sexually transmitted agents, as well the current of research in STD vaccine development. Non-specific STD control strategies are also described. "The editors seek to define the worldwide scope of STD/HIV epidemiology, as well as to review the current status of research on STD prevention. Current efforts to develop preventive and therapeutic vaccines for various STD pathogens are considered in detail. Effective vaccine candidates for most of these infections are not yet available in clinical practice. "The book will appeal to infectious disease practitioners and researchers, as well as molecular microbiologists and virologists interested in STD vaccine development. The contirbutors are credible, well-published authorities in their areas. The language is appropriate for advanced practitioners and researchers at the postgraduate level. "STD epidemiology, genital tract anatomy, and nonspecific STD prevention methods such as condoms and microbicides are summarized in the first half of the book.
