Caroline Shipley's younger daughter, Samantha, was kidnapped 15 years ago while the family was on vacation in Mexico. Caroline is now divorced from her husband and estranged from her older daughter as a result of the tragedy. Then, on the anniversary of the kidnapping, a young woman contacts Caroline claiming to be Samantha. The story alternates among the present, 15 years earlier at the time of the abduction, and during the intervening years. The time periods are clearly indicated, making the story easy to follow. The writing is a bit formulaic, the characters are mostly predictable, and the ending is not a surprise. Despite these criticisms, narrator Tanya Eby maintains some suspense until the end. VERDICT This will appeal to Fielding's many fans. For popular public library mystery collections.—Michele Lauer-Bader, formerly with Half Hollow Hills Community Lib., Dix Hills, NY
