The Civil War made him a man. The battle of Shiloh made him a hero and gave him a nickname that stuck. Editorial Reviews

APR/MAY 06 - AudioFile

Rhodes's dramatic Western mainly takes place after the Civil War. Strong male characters dominate the action, read comfortably by Gene Engene. Engene portrays the young Shiloh, or Nathan Whittington, and his friends Lester and Doc by using a varied pace and volume, as well as regional accents. Shiloh cannot settle down until he settles the score with Colonel Sam Mattox, and this hunt takes him deep into Mexico. As the tension builds in Engene's voice, listeners will better understand Shiloh's preoccupations, misconceptions, and emotions. On the whole, Engene's performance smoothly recreates the cowboy storyteller. S.C.A. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine
