Description: This wonderful book presents a current, comprehensive approach to shoulder instability. Organized into sections focusing on anterior, posterior, and multidirectional instability of the shoulder, the book includes arthroscopic, open, and revision approaches to the problem.
Purpose: The editors have gathered an impressive group of contributors with the shared goal of enabling surgeons learning the techniques to begin at a level of performance higher on the learning curve than otherwise would be possible. The book also will allow surgeons who are already performing shoulder instability surgery to optimize their skills and get pearls from experts in the field.
Audience: Residents in training, fellows, and orthopedic surgeons beginning a practice in shoulder surgery will all benefit from this book. There is little question in my mind that many of my colleagues in shoulder practice also will benefit from this book and garnering its pearls from practitioners from around the world. Ultimately, the benefit will be to our patients. Both editors are world-renowned leaders in the field who are commonly found on the podiums of national and international meetings discussing the treatment of shoulder instability. I have seen them both teach and they clearly are master surgeons. To their credit, they also have surrounded themselves with impressive contributors who provide well-rounded depth to the topic.
Features: Each section is concise, efficient, and well written, and guides surgeons so they are able to perform a successful surgical stabilization. The book also provides foundational information to make appropriate decisions about when and where to use each specific procedure and variation. The bonus features are particularly valuable, and include an online version accessible anywhere a laptop goes and numerous bonus videos both online and on the CD that comes with the book. The videos are high quality and worth their weight in gold in demonstrating the techniques and procedures.
