A new book by Julia Turshen makes the heart lift.” — Nigella Lawson
"Julia Turshen clearly lays out simple techniques and then encourages us to learn them and let go and dance our way through our kitchens with confidence. With an intuitive layout, intimate wisdom, and aspirational-yet-achievable meals, Simply Julia is a beautiful, next-level, parent-friendly cookbook that will have a prime position on my counter for a long time to come." — Jennifer Garner
“I came for the freakin' delicious-sounding recipes (Ricotta and Potato Chip Fish Cakes with Peas, anyone?), but I stayed for how deeply personal Julia's book proves to be. There's a story behind every dish and thoughtful essays on topics ranging from anxiety to volunteering. This book is a must for anyone with a beating heart and active stomach.” — Antoni Porowski
"Whether you cook professionally or not, when you're at home, you're a HOME cook, and Julia sees us...ALL of us. Her lists are epically, simple reminders that lists are necessary and customizable. The recipes and tips are so practical, that you can see yourself cooking even when you're not cooking. This is more than a cookbook; it's an advocate, a champion...a friend." — Carla Hall
“This book is absolutely overflowing with Julia Turshen's generosity, vulnerability, and love. That sounds like a lot to put in a book of comfort-food recipes, but it's not—it's exactly how it should be. These recipes come from Julia's heart, a palace big enough for all of us. I've had it a week and know I'll never live without it. Simply Julia—what more could anyone want or need?” — Emma Straub
"Julia is the dinner guest who warmly and disarmingly asks the questions that just get to the heart of the matter. Her cooking and approach to food are just the same: warm, thoughtful, deeply comforting, and an invitation to simply be who we are." — Joy Wilson
“Simply Julia is not just an essential book, but an extraordinary one. Imbued with Julia’s gracious spirit and food memories, this is a book that will become your favorite kitchen companion. The pages offer recipes, yes, but also beautiful glimpses into Julia’s home and life. White-Pizza Style Kale and Georgine’s Crumb Cake will be on heavy rotation in my house; but what Julia conveys best is the fact that food is love and there is no doubt that it brings us all together as a universal community.” — Amanda Freitag
"Turshen’s what-works-for-you approach succeeds in reminding home cooks that 'delicious food doesn’t have to be complicated.' This spirited collection charms on every page." — Publishers Weekly

The laid-back recipes in chef Turshen's latest cookbook are crafted to embrace simplicity in all aspects of home cooking, from widely available and affordable ingredients to straightforward techniques and methods. The recipes are also endlessly creative as Turshen puts her personal stamp on comfort food with inspiration from a wide variety of global cuisines (a vegetarian muffuletta sandwich) and improvisational suggestions for making each dish your own (a red lentil spread that can be served as a party dip or transformed into a vegetarian soup). The author believes that home cooking is an important way of caring for others, which includes sensitivity to dietary needs and preferences; her book features more than 80 vegetarian recipes and dozens of vegan, dairy- and egg-free, and gluten-free options. Turshen also offers brief essays on topics such as positive body image, gas grills, and the importance of volunteering. VERDICT Turshen writes from a home cook's perspective, and her fourth solo cookbook offers relaxed comfort food with a slew of creative, contemporary twists. Reach for this book when you want simple dishes, global flavors, and a stress-free vibe.—Kelsy Peterson, Forest Hill Coll., Melbourne, Australia
