Overview

SING A SONG FOR SIX-PENCE - ILLUSTRATED BY RANDALPH CALDECOTT - GUNSTON CLASSICS

. A very popular classic nursery rhyme brought to life with the delightful illustrations of famed R. Caldecott are said to have many undertones back in the day. One of the most interesting is that the rhyme
may have been a coded message used by the legendary pirate captain Blackbeard to recruit pirates. Sixpence and a hipflask of rye whisky was the weekly pirate's wage. The 'blackbirds' were blackbeard's pirates and the 'pie' his ship. A charming tale that always delights.
