Description: This book is organized by specific body sites where particular cancers occur, patient populations at risk for certain neoplasms, and types of skin cancer. One section in the cutaneous lymphoma chapter specifically discusses and illustrates the clinical presentation of folliculotropic mycosis fungoides.
Purpose: The purpose of the book is to serve as a comprehensive reference on the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of skin cancer.
Audience: The target audience includes students, residents, and clinicians, encompassing dermatologists, oncologists, surgical oncologists, and primary care physicians.
Features: The book has a number of strengths. It presents mostly excellent clinical photographs of skin cancers; however, some photos lack sufficient clarity and magnitude to visualize the tumor details crisply. The book nicely summarizes the latest evidence on topical and oral supplementation for chemoprevention without confusion and reviews the mechanisms of action in cancer prevention. It also mentions the conflicting data showing that systemic supplementation may increase cancer. Further, the book provides thorough explanations of cancer pathogenesis. Given the number of abbreviations used throughout, it would be useful to add legends with the abbreviations at the beginning of each chapter.
Assessment: This book is a handy reference to own. It is well organized and up to date, enabling readers to quickly access current knowledge on skin cancer diagnosis and treatment. Considering the wide range of skin cancers discussed in the book, the authors have admirably accomplished their goal of helping readers recognize and treat specific cancers.
