About the Author

Gary Oliver is a Author. poet and a applied theatre practitioner or over twenty years, and works in community and social settings, health and well-being, and restorative justice. For the last 10 years he has been the lead applied theatre practitioner at the U7 arts and cultural services, based in Stoke-on-Trent, an applied arts centre that utilises urban art forms to create social intervention.

He has developed and delivered various types of interventionist theatre projects contributing to the overall strategic development of the Arts Centre’s community and outreach work. Creating innovative urban arts solutions to contemporary issues such as social inclusion with the Map Rap, mental health and in restorative justice , which have made a contribution to the field of applied theatre practice with in urban arts.

Gary is known to take a holistic approach to its intervention strategy with participants by examining and resolving, with them, current issues that affect their lives. He has produced many publications and is an expert in using Verbal Arts such as poetry and rap an interventionist tool to explore an aray of issues and community problems .

Gary has worked with an array of individuals with varying needs ranging from 7 to 80 years old . Also worked with a multitude of organizations and statutory bodies and agencies for arts and consultancy purposes.
