Overview

Sonny's Dream: a story which teaches children how to conquer their fear. Sonny, a young grizzly bear, lives happily in Alaska wilderness with his mother, but he has bad dreams - giant red "Monster Fish" swim through his sleep. ("Goggle-eyed Monster Fish stared at me. Reflected light on their sharp glaring teeth made me dazed and dizzy.") His mother explains that he fell into a stream with salmon, but now he is bigger and must perfect his skills. She also tells him, "Sonny, now, to be an adult Grizzly, you have one big lesson to learn. Without my help, you will make a decision on your own."
