This volume assesses the evolution of Spain's external relations during the 1990s, within and beyond Europe, and assesses the principal challenges facing the country at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The 11 papers gathered here were presented at a workshop called "Spain 2000" in Petersfield, England in 2000. They consider Spain's responses to the European and other international changes, including the EU, the end of the cold war, and globalization, with papers devoted to economic response, the growth of the EU, Spanish foreign and military policy. The Spanish and English contributors are lecturers in politics, sociology, and international relations, as well as officials with the Red Cross, the Humanitarian Action Unit, and the EU.
