About the Author

Angelique M. Davis is Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of Global African Studies at Seattle University. As a tenured professor, attorney, and mother of four—as well as coach for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity and facilitator of writing retreats—she gained unique insights into the gratifications and frustrations of the academic writing and publication process. She practiced law until she joined the faculty at Seattle University in 2005. In addition to her academic pursuits, Professor Davis remains a licensed attorney in Washington state and chairs the Seattle Civil Service Commission. Find her at: https://angeliquemdavis.com.??

Rose Ernst is an academic editor, writing consultant, and coach. She served as Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science at Seattle University until 2019. She received her PhD from the University of Washington and BA from Cornell University. As an author, Rose understands the joys and challenges of academic writing and publishing. NYU Press published her first book, The Price of Progressive Politics: The Welfare Rights Movement in an Era of Colorblind Racism (2010). She has also published articles in many acclaimed social science journals. As a developmental editor and writing coach, she specializes in the social sciences, history, law, interdisciplinary social sciences/humanities, and research ethics. Rose is always seeking ways to improve writing routines, dance with writing resistance, and support scholars in producing and publishing their best work. Email her at .
