About the Author

Jill Hardie is a writer and marketing professional with a great deal of enthusiasm for the Sparkle Box concept. Jill’s family began the tradition of placing a Sparkle Box under their Christmas tree when her children were seven and fifteen years old; now, the Sparkle Box is the gift they most anticipate opening each year. Jill, her husband, and their two children live in North Canton, Ohio.

At a very early age, Christine Kornacki developed a love for painting and bringing stories to life. After receiving a BFA in illustration from the University of Hartford, her dreams of illustrating children’s books began to take shape, including illustrating the best-selling The First Christmas Night. She spends her days painting in her studio, which adjoins a charming café in New Haven, Connecticut.

Hardie draws on a family tradition to teach children that giving to others makes Jesus happy. Sam’s excitement about the upcoming holiday and his curiosity about the “Sparkle Box” on the mantle are believable, if saccharine, as is the way in which he and his mother alternate their family’s preparations with charity for the needy. Kornacki paints wonderful outdoor scenes that make readers feel the cold of the homeless man on a bench, and indoor scenes effulgent with family love.
