Sticking to Ptolemaic and Roman traditions, the local stonemasons still adopted current designs and created a characteristic mixture of shape and style. The sumptuous stone decoration adorned the upper-class tombs of Oxyrhynchus, its iconography reflects the religious beliefs of local dignitaries.
