About the Author

CSM(R) Winston Clough served over 30 years in the Army with the first 10 years in units ranging from Troop “A” Airborne 3rd Squadron 8th Cavalry 8th Infantry Division to tours in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, Division Pathfinders, and as a Drill Sergeant. He served in Vietnam as a Ranger Company LRRP Team Leader, which enabled him to perfect patrolling techniques under real world conditions. His last 20 plus years were in the 5th Special Forces Group where he held the following positions: light/heavy Weapons Sergeant, O&I Sergeant, Team Sergeant, 1st Sergeant, Company SGM, BN CSM, and Group Command Sergeant Major. He participated in operations in the Republic of Vietnam, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Desert Saber, Somalia, and most every country in the Middle East and Africa. Following retirement, he attained a BS degree and taught U.S. History, World History and Advanced Placement History. He went on to become one of the early team members helping to form and train the Human Terrain Teams for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. He also deployed for four and a half years to Afghanistan as a contractor working with the Afghanistan National Army.

Bronston Clough is the son of a retired Special Forces Command Sergeant Major. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served over 6 years as an Infantry Officer. He served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Battalion Mortar Platoon leader, and S3-Air. He deployed with the 101st to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He served as a Ranger Instructor and the BN Personnel Officer at the Benning Phase of Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He is currently a plant manager for an automotive supplier.
