About the Author

Dr David Eastwood. MBBS MSc (SEM) MFSEM (UK) MRCGP DipMSKMed. David is a doctor currently working in general practice, musculoskeletal medicine and professional sport. He is a director of Medisense Medical Education and a visiting lecturer at Leeds University.

Dr Dane Vishnubala. MBBS MRCGP PGCME MSc (SEM) DipSEM (UK) FFSEM FHEA. Dane is a Consultant physician in Sport and Exercise and the vice chair of Education for the British association of sport and exercise medicine (BASEM). He is currently the clinical lead of the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Leeds and the training programme Director for SEM higher specialist training in Yorkshire and Humber. Clinically, Dane works for the military, NHS, YSM Clinic and in professional sport.

Audience: This book is written for any medical practitioners who will likely care for an athlete at some point in their career. For those who will not regularly see athletes, it will be an excellent resource for quick review. For those who will regularly see athletes, this book can serve well as a cover to cover read to ensure there are no major gaps in practitioners' fundamental knowledge. The primary authors are credible experts in sports medicine.

It covers both basic sciences and fundamental topics of exercise science, as well as the major clinical considerations of all the major joints and body systems that impact the health of an athlete. The book has many illustrations which effectively aid the concise nature of each chapter and often summarize cumbersome concepts efficiently. The book also ends each chapter with a short multiple-choice quiz. This helps ensure understanding as each question has an explanation of why the answer is correct. This book serves best as a review for adult sports and exercise medicine; other resources will serve better for the pediatric population.
