Overview

The ten-track budget compilation Sports Jams doubles as a decent, if random, overview of late-'70s and early-'80s party music. There's disco (KC & the Sunshine Band's "That's the Way I Like It," Foxy's "Get Off"), old-school rap (Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel's "White Lines," the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight"), electro (Newcleus' "Jam on It"), and funk (Positive Force's "People Get on Up"). While some of the selections have been played at countless sporting events, it's doubtful that a few of them -- such as Little Beaver's relatively laid-back "Party Down" -- have been played at more than a handful (if any) of them. ~ Andy Kellman
