Stewards of the Mysteries of God, The Story of the Bishops of Virgina
A compelling narrative of struggle, travail, growth, destruction, rebirth and renewal in the Diocese of Virginia, from the first service of Thanksgiving and celebration of communion in 1607 through the years without Bishops, the establishment of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States of America, and the election of the first Bishop in 1786. The story of colonization, outreach, revolution, dis-establishment, slavery, civil war, world mission, race relations, ordination of women, revolt against change and the election of the first black bishop in 1993 — an election run off the rails by accusation of sexual misconduct.

About the Author

Robin Lind is an "amateur" historian in the sense that he undertook this work as an act of love for the church, at the suggestion of Bishop Peter Lee, 12th Diocesan Bishop of Virginia. The beneficiary of strong churchmanship in family upbringing and church schools, he is an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Dover Parish, in the Diocese of Virginia.
