Overview

International thriller, Story of a Stolen Girl, is a fictional accounting of a mother's love and how far she will go to rescue her only daughter. At the invitation of her psychology professor, Darby Richards and her college roommate attend a private gambling club. Darby is drugged, kidnapped, and sold through an international human trafficking cartel serving world leaders, corporate CEO's, and even the President's Cabinet. A puff of the Columbian drug, the Devil's Breath, renders Darby utterly compliant, controlled by suggestion, and responsive to verbal commands. While held in Ankara, Turkey, she is befriended by other stolen women whose stories, compilations of actual victims, weave throughout the plot. When the FBI, LAPD, and an executive kidnapping insurance company fail to bring her daughter home, Darby's widowed mother, Nina Richards, concludes she must wait no longer for someone else to rescue her daughter. But what can she do?

About the Author

Dr. Pat Spencer authored a textbook, newspaper and magazine columns, as well as trade and scholarly articles. Her short story, Oceanside: A Healing Place won the 2019 Oceanside Literary Festival. She received degrees from Riverside Community College, University of La Verne, and the University of California, Riverside. She began her academic career as a community college teacher and retired as a college president. When she is not writing, Pat is golfing, walking on the beach, or spending time with family. She lives in Southern California with her husband, Mike.

Pat Spencer does an excellent job with a tough subject. It's a suspenseful story in which she shows us to never underestimate a devoted mother determined to save her child. Dr. Spencer focuses a laser beam on the little known and under-reported major issue of abduction and human trafficking spreading across the globe today. Many believe that it is not an American problem, is relegated to third world countries. As she points out, that sadly is not the case. She deftly weaves a tapestry of danger and intrigue, while providing real world facts and situations into her well-documented story of suspense. A must read for anyone responsible for children and young adults.

Couldn't put it down. As mother of two daughters in college, it scared me to death. I sent copies to remind them not to trust just because of the title or position a person holds. The mother/daughter bond, so strong I could feel it. The deceased grandfather, so touching and important. Had no idea trafficking is so huge in the United States. Even my police officer brother didn't know about Devil's Breath! The other stolen girls' stories, based on real-life victims broke my heart. Important book!
