About the Author

 

Martin Wright was a police officer for 30 years and is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Canterbury Centre for Policing Research at Canterbury Christ Church University. He is a council member of the Institute of Administrative Management and managing editor of the Oxford University Press journal Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice.

Jane Bottomley is a freelance writer, teacher and educational consultant. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Senior Fellow of BALEAP, the global forum for English for Academic Purposes practitioners. She has helped students from a wide range of disciplines to improve their academic skills and achieve their study goals, including 14 years as a Senior Language Tutor at the University of Manchester.

Steven Pryjmachuk is Professor of Mental Health Nursing Education in the School of Health Science's Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His teaching, clinical and research work has centred largely on supporting and facilitating individuals – be they students, patients or colleagues – to develop, learn or care independently. In December 2014, Steven was elected as vice Chair (2015-16) and Chair (2017-18) of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK, an organisation representing 65 Higher Education Institutions providing education and research on mental health nursing

 


Jane Bottomley is a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and previously worked in the same capacity at the University of Manchester. Jane has considerable experience teaching academic writing and has worked with undergraduates, postgraduates and university staff to help them develop their understanding and practice in their discourse communities.

Martin Wright is a Visiting Fellow at the International Centre for Policing and Security, University of South Wales. He was a police officer for 30 years and is the creator of the Retail Radio Link community safety programme. After leaving the police he joined the University of Wolverhampton in 2008 where he was the Director of the Central Institute for the Study of Public Protection and Head of Department of Uniformed Services with responsibility for the BSc Policing degree, BSc Fire & Rescue degree and BSc Armed Forces degree. He currently holds a number of other positions: Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Canterbury Centre for Policing Research within Canterbury Christ Church University; Series Editor of the Routledge Advances in Police Practice and Knowledge; editor of Critical Publishing's 'The Service Speaks’ series; and managing editor and book review editor of the Oxford Journal of Policing. He is a volunteer with Dyfed Powys Police.
