Explains the process of substituting less for more hazardous chemicals in a variety of workplaces, and tools for assessing the toxicity of both the current and the proposed substitute chemicals, then details 162 examples of successful and unsuccessful substitutions. The conditions and regulations described are Danish, and many advances have been made since 1989, but the principles and at least some of the specific information could still be useful to managers and workers.
