Susan and Her Mom

Susan and her Mom is a true story, beginning in 1950. Jean and Bernie, newlyweds in their early twenties, found themselves dealing with doctors, grandparents and societies scorn of Down syndrome children (then called Mongoloid). This was an era of discarding imperfect children to institutions. Education was non-existent for developmentally disabled. With faith and perseverance Jean and Bernie pioneered and worked with other parents to establish a nursery school and work program, also encouraging state legislation to provide education.

Follow the tears and laughter of raising a Down syndrome child.

This is a must read for any parent of a child with developmental disabilities.
