I grew up in "The "Riverhood," that's what I call our tight-knit community of River People, a.k.a. Swamp People, Swampers, River Rats and Rajun Cajuns, who live in the same little rural area outlined by the Pearl River that cuts through Honey Island Swamp. Many of us in "The Riverhood" have houseboats or river camps that have been passed down from generation to generation. These floating houses and rugged cabins are secluded in a world of it's own, where time moseys on downriver at a slow, easy pace, unless flood waters are rising. On weekends, we have gatherings to fry fish, boil crawfish, roast a hog, and cook many other edible swamp critters. Our unique way of life and Southern Cajun Wild Game Recipes can be as simple as a deer stew, or a masterpiece of simmering ingredients as in Alligator Sauce Piquant -- each dish unforgettable with flavors that will linger on your taste buds and in memory.
