Description: This reference on the management of syndromes in the perioperative period describes each syndrome, including incidence, classification, genetic inheritance, pathophysiology, and diagnostic information, and then the perioperative considerations, specifically precautions before anesthesia, anesthetic considerations, and pharmacological implications. The previous edition was published in 2006.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an at-a-glance reference on syndromes to help providers in the development of safe, effective anesthetic plans. This is a necessary resource, given the multitude of patients with syndromes who present for surgery and the limited amount of time, in some instances, for preoperative preparation. A summary of thousands of syndromes is provided in a well-organized, clear fashion.
Audience: The audience is all practitioners caring for a patient in the perioperative period: anesthesiologists, surgeons, internists, pediatricians, emergency physicians, and nurses. Practitioners who need to quickly gain knowledge on a syndrome to develop a perioperative plan can use this reference. This book effectively updates and expands on the information presented in the first edition.

Assessment: This is the only book of its kind to address so many syndromes and the perioperative considerations of each. For many of the rarest syndromes, there is a lack of published material. This book consolidates all syndromes into one reference, which is unique. This new edition contains updated entries as well as additional syndromes. It is also more visually appealing with color used in the main titles and subdivision titles.
