About the Author

I've lived with pet birds for 30 years, and I've traveled the planet to observe wild birds for almost 15 years. While I have never been a commercial breeder, I've successfully raised several species on a hobby level, to learn more about what makes birds happy enough to reproduce. As a writer for Bird Talk magazine, I had the privilege of being asked to compile several reader surveys, where Bird Talk readers could share their own experiences with their birds. I also wrote six books for T.F.H. Publications, including titles on cockatiels, budgies, finches, and talking birds. My favorite species is the Peachfront Conure, which I have bred several times. In April 2011, I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to Bolivia to observe this charming species in its wild habitat. My husband and I currently share our home with four twentysomething Peachfront Conures and a fortysomething Yellow-Crowned Amazon.
