Keeno and Ernest are the best of friends living in the jungle. Keeno, a very mischievous monkey, wants to give his mom a beautiful diamond from the diamond mine. He plans to swap it out for the river rock he found. Ernest explains that this would be stealing, but Keeno decides it is just a trade. Follow the adventure as Keeno finds himself in great danger and relies on Ernest to rescue him. In the end, Keeno learns two very valuable lessons about friendship and asking before taking.

About the Author

Maggie van Galen is the award-winning author of the Keeno and Ernest children's book series. Growing up in Northern Michigan, she listened to her father's stories, imagining characters, being transported to the locations and engaging in the plots.

Maggie has always written as a sort of escapism...writing poetry, studying journalism and creative writing in college. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1991, she entered the corporate world of sales and marketing. After the death of her father in 1995, and meeting the man of her dreams, Maggie moved to Boston to work for a marketing firm, but writing always pulled her back. She has published a book of poetry called An Inside Look...and wrote for a small-town New Hampshire newspaper. In 2000, she moved to London and worked at The Economist for 3 years and had 2 beautiful boys.

As happiness began shining in her personal life the stories and words started to flow. After years of telling stories to her boys and their friends, Maggie decided to share them with the world. Joanna Lundeen Gallant was born in Canandaigua, NY. She graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, MA with BA in Visual Arts. Thanks to the encouragement of family and close friends, she embarked on her first ever illustration of a children's book. The Adventures of Keeno and Ernest "The Diamond Mine" is a timeless story that "shows" young children what it means to be a good friend. Keeno, the monkey, has great ideas that do not always turn out well. Lucky for him his best friend is Ernest, the elephant, who rescues Keeno from danger and sometimes from himself. In this second installment of their adventures, Keeno learns two life lessons about stealing and materialism. The book is illustrated in vivid, gauche color and contains an interactive game for young readers. Keeno & Ernest's story makes a wonderful read aloud in the classroom. This is another very sweet and enjoyable story from Maggie van Galen. It is well-written and well-paced, and the characters are adorable. And, with the delightful, bold and vibrant illustrations, painted by hand by Joanna Lundeen, this book is a real gem. Then there is the lesson about stealing; "If you take something without asking, then it's stealing and stealing is wrong". And, when an elephant tells you that; you really should listen! An excellent message, especially for all those dear little two or three years olds we all know and love, who think everything in the entire universe has 'MINE - ALL MINE' stamped all over it. There is also an added bonus here of a page of 'can you find' at the back, which is fun. In all; a very endearing little book which I am thrilled to place on my bookshelf.
