The annoying strings onI'm Gonna Miss You aren't around to clutter this time. A rhythm section dominates the Artistics' second Brunswick album; horns are sparingly used for seasoning. Chi-Lite lead singer and prolific writer Eugene Record contributes three songs from his stash. "Hard to Carry On," a Floyd Smith/Gerald Sims composition, dented the R&B charts, and "You Left Me" should have been a hit. Lead singer Marvin Smith's voice shifts from falsetto to tenor like a sticky transmission. "Trouble, Heartaches, and Pain" features some plucky guitar playing and a fine torch lead by Marvin. Generally, the Artistics' voices dwarf the average material. ~ Andrew Hamilton
