About the Author

About The Author
Kate Chopin (1850-1904) was an American writer and is now widely considered a pioneering feminist figure. She wrote several influential short stories, including 'Désirée's Baby' (1893) and 'The Story of an Hour' (1894). Her novella 'The Awakening' (1899) received criticism upon publication for its unblinking portrayal of female sexuality and desire. The text is now a landmark in feminist fiction.
