Babe Ruth grew up above a bar on the docks of Baltimore, Maryland. He began truanting school and hanging with a gang of boys. His father put him in a juvenile reform school, where Babe learned baseball. He became so good at baseball that he was offered a professional contract by the Baltimore Orioles. When he joined the New York Yankees, he became the best known baseball player in America, holding the home run record of 714 for decades. Babe Ruth rose above his troubled childhood and is still considered by many people the best baseball player of all time.
