Inland Fish Marketing in India covers all aspects of this important subject. Fish seed requirements an analysed exhaustively and a number of recommendations provided. Following this the study examines the present status of fish ponds, culture practices and infrastructure facilities for fresh water culture fisheries with suggestions for further development. Reservoir fisheries are then dealt with in two separate parts; in one the current situation is reviewed and the various sub-systems analysed; the second part gives case studies of selected reservoirs and offers recommendations in each area. Riverine capture fishery is considered next in respect of the economics of fish production and marketing along with infrastructural facilities. Suggestions cover pollution control and artificial breeding grounds. The study on brackish water culture examines, among other things, the level of technology, the economics of such fisheries, market flows, infrastructure and investment opportunities. Case studies on lakes and swamps are given with a number of recommendations. The last two volumes analyse markets of different kinds along with a review of the specific roles of cooperatives and corporations relating to the sample centres studied. Availability of data for planning and control tasks in various fishery sub-systems arc looked at and assessed. Finally, the recommendations on data base highlight the need for strengthening it and for standardization of terminologies. This set of volumes is part of a series of studies undertaken by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad which is intended to comprehensively cover all aspects of fish marketing in India. About the Author

Dr. S.G. Deogaonkar a retired Reader in Political Science, holding master’s degrees in political science and Public Administration and a Ph.D. degree in Social Science. He also holds an LL.M, degree in Constitutional Law. A scholar of repute, he has completed about 10 post-doctoral research projects and has about 15 books to his credit, mostly based on fieldwork. For the last 15 years he was a Non-official Member in the Governing Council of the Tribal Research & Training Institute, Maharashtra State (Pune) and for 10 years was Member of the Zonal Advisory Council for the Western Zone of the Life Insurance Corporation of India. Till recently, he was Member of the Expert Committee appointed by the Maharashtra State for re-verification of entries of Tribal communities in the State Governments Resolution of 1985. Some of his reputed books include, The Madia of Bhamragad, The Korku Tribals, The Banjara, The Hill Korwa, Tribal Exploitation, Tribal Development Plans; etc.

Dr. (Mrs.) S.S. Deogaonkar holds a Masters degree in Language and a Ph.D. in Tribal Linguistics and Folk-literature. She has been teaching degree classes in Colleges affiliated to the Nagpur University on contributory basis. She specialises in tribal linguistics and tribal folk-literature and was awarded Best Literature Award for the year 1990-91 by the Maharashtra State for her book on the Madia dialect. She has collected and documented tribal folk-songs and folk-tales and has published many books in Marathi and English. She was a member of the State Level Committee on District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) and a Resource person for Training Programmes for teachers working in tribal area organised by the State Council for Educational Research and Training.
